    Cat Ba Island Information

    Cat Ba is the largest of the 366 islands spanning 260 km2 that comprise the Cat Ba Archipelago, which makes up the southeastern edge of Ha Long bay in Northem Vietnam. Cat B is the largest island in the bay and approximately half of its area is covered by a National Park, thich is home to the highly endangered Cat Ba Langur.

    The is land has a wide varietry of natural ecosystems, both marine and terrestrial, leading, to incredibly high rates of biodiversity. Types of natural habitats found on Cat Ba Archipelago in clude limestone karsts, tropical limestone forests, coral reefs, mangrove and sea grass beds, lagoons, beaches, caves, and willow swamp forests.

    Cat Ba Island is one of the only populated is lands in Ha Long bay, with roughly 13 000 inhabitants living in six different communes and 4000 more inhabitants living on floating fishing villages off the coast.
    Lakes, waterfalls and grottoes dot the spectacular limestone hills, the highest rising 331m above sea level. The island's largest body of water is Ech Lake (3 hectares).      - September to November, clear skies and bright sun.
     - December to February is cooler but pleasant.
     - February to April is still good, but you can expect some rain
     - Summer ( Jun to Agust) is hot and himid with occasional thunderstorms
